Rye and Camber Sands, England

Last Updated on June 30, 2022 by Natalie Rabinowitz

Architecture, History and Sand Dunes. An ideal escape from London offers a great combination of the small and charming town of Rye and Camber Sand Dunes, where you will find some of the finest, smoothest and softest sand in England. Did I mention Sand Dunes!

While a must needed lazy day on the beach is necessary, don’t forget to visit Rye. The small town of Rye is a 15-minute drive or one hour walk from Camber Sands. Meander and walk along the cobbled streets lined with medieval timbered houses; some are dating back to 1420! Rye is small enough to discover within a couple of hours with a unique mix of architecture, streets to wander, restaurants, and an abundance of antique shops.

There is a lot to explore in the area. If you have additional time, Hastings is about 25 minutes away, where William, Duke of Normandy and Harold II of England fought the famous battle of 1066. Bodiam Castle is another 24 minutes away that makes for a well-rounded loop for an ideal long weekend city escape.
